On June 9, 2017, the Coalition for Energy Efficient Comminution (CEEC) announced the recipients of the CEEC Medal – a prestigious annual award for the most outstanding published papers, articles or case studies profiling beneficial strategies for eco-efficient comminution and mineral processing.
Aidan Giblett, Senior Technical Advisor, and Steven Hart, Principal Process Advisor for Newmont Australia, were awarded with the CEEC Medal in the Operations category for their paper titled, “Grinding Circuit Practices at Newmont,” presented at the AusIMM’s Mill Operators Conference in 2016.
According to the CEEC, Giblett and Hart’s paper was an exceptional contribution to the global mining industry.
Their paper offered important insights for the global mining sector on effective operations, optimization approaches and design, and testwork improvements that may significantly improve productivity and energy efficiency at other operations worldwide.
While Giblett and Hart authored the publication, a team of site-based personnel were integral to its success – providing the duo source material and data that proved vital to their findings. As Giblett commented, “The great work from employees on the ground gave us something meaningful to share – it’s a summation of a number of efforts.”
CEEC Director and Medal Evaluation Committee Chair, Dr. Zeljka Pokajcic, stated, “Giblett and Hart’s paper is an outstanding example of approaches to successfully improve grinding performance in different mines, plants and locations, for a range of ore characteristics and circuit configurations. It serves as an inspiration to operators tackling operational challenges, and wanting to improve productivity and performance.”
Among the elements that support Newmont’s business strategy is a commitment to technical and operational excellence. We strive to foster a culture of continuous improvement across our operations and are proud to support the work of Giblett and Hart.
