In late March, a few thousand people across northern Nevada in the United States got a close-up look at Newmont’s custom bike, built by Paul Jr. Designs (PJD). The two-wheeled work of art was recently featured on two episodes of Discovery Channel’s American Chopper TV series.
Paul Teutul, Jr., and his PJD crew received a heartfelt welcome in Elko, Nevada, and addressed the cheering crowd after wheeling the spectacular ride onto the stage. Underscoring the importance of this bike in Newmont’s recruiting, Paul Jr. said, “The idea behind this bike is to encourage the next generation to work with their hands, (so that we have) more skilled workers… that’s the only way that companies like Paul Jr. Designs and Newmont can grow. We want to support the trade schools out there and get them working for us. It’s very important to both companies.”
“One of the things I really love about Newmont is that their greatest natural resource is not what’s in the ground… it’s their people,” Paul Jr. commented. “We have that in common, because at Paul Jr. Designs, this bike is not possible without the people you see standing behind me and the people at our company.”
“Our custom bike is an innovative way for us to brand Newmont and set ourselves apart from other mining companies,” said Tom Kerr, Senior Vice President, Newmont North America. “The tremendous publicity generated by this televized bike build can be leveraged to help us attract a larger, more varied demographic of people to Newmont and our industry, strengthening our potential for business growth.”
The PJD bike is one of the many creative paths we are taking on our journey to become the most valued and respected mining company through industry-leading performance.
