Newmont Sponsors 2016 Diversity and Business Ethics Case Competition

Newmont Mining Corporation was the top corporate sponsor of the inaugural 2016 Diversity and Business Ethics Case Competition on February 5-6, 2016, hosted by the Office of Diversity Affairs and the Center for Education on Social Responsibility at the Leeds School of Business.

Students created top-talent teams from undergraduate business programs at universities across Colorado, balanced in terms of gender and ethnic diversity. Two weeks prior to the competition, teams received a fictitious business case, which highlighted real world ethnicity, gender, leadership, and ethical dilemmas. The teams presented their understanding of these issues while providing innovative solutions to a three-judge panel, which included Newmont’s Allison Coppel, who heads up the Social Responsibility within the Sustainability and External Relations function.

In between days one and two of the competition, students had the opportunity to network with corporate executives, such as Randy Engel, EVP of Strategy, and Malik Duncan, Group Executive, Business Services (who also sits on the Leeds Advisory Board). Newmont’s involvement in the event is in line with its Global Inclusion and Diversity strategy, which actively seeks to create a more diverse and inclusive work environment.
