This year on Veterans Day – a day dedicated to honoring those who served in the United States Armed Forces – Newmont President and Chief Executive Officer, Gary Goldberg, hosted a lunch paying tribute to the men and women of Newmont who sacrificed to defend their country and protect freedom.
U.S. Congressman Mike Coffman and Newmont President and CEO Gary Goldberg join members of the corporate VETS business resource group.
Joining our CEO for the event was U.S. Congressman Mike Coffman, who joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served in both the Army and U.S. Marine Corps during his military career, which included two tours of duty in Iraq. Congressman Coffman commended Newmont for supporting veterans and organizations such as the USO, whose mission is to lift the spirits of American troops and their families.
“I think it is so important to remember the men and women who make sacrifices every day in defense of our freedom,” said Congressman Coffman to the crowd of more than 200 employees.
Throughout Newmont’s history, we have supported U.S. military veterans, recognizing the wealth of experience and leadership they bring to our business. Along with actively recruiting U.S. veterans, Newmont helps military service personnel transition to civilian careers; offers meaningful and challenging career opportunities; and provides competitive compensation packages to support active-duty and deployed employees and their families.

Our policies and practices to support employees who are veterans or serve in the reserves have received recognition from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for a number of years. In 2010, Newmont was a recipient of the ESGR’s Freedom Award – the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to organizations for their support of employees serving in the reserves.
At our operations in Nevada, veterans make up nearly 15 percent of our workforce, and employees at our corporate office recently formed a business resource group that works to connect military members, veterans and their families within the business, and to assist veterans throughout Colorado with successful transition to civilian life and professional development.
